The Fashionable Chemist

This post goes out to my number one fans, the girls who have always been there and taught me how to truly live.

The idea for this post slowly formed throughout the day. It all began when I decided to put on my chemistry society t-shirt. I am typically not a fan of t-shirts and never wear just a t-shirt and jeans. But this shirt is different it is a Chemistry t-shirt (the black and white aspect also makes it a little chicer). And note that I did not wear it with “just” jeans I wore it with my favorite knee high leather boots and did my hair in my favorite lazy day look.

And Chemistry is different it is something that most try to avoid and don’t truly understand. But Chemistry is something that I love because it is not easy to understand, it is something I work very hard at every day. And some days I question why I am doing what I am doing, actually those are most days. But then there are the days when I reach an understanding or complete a difficult problem and receive that complete sense of accomplishment, almost a small shock of what I was capable of. Those moments are the reason I do what I do.

I hope that you each know why you do what you do, it is most likely not Chemistry, it might be starting a blog, trying get into the world of fashion, or just simply trying to do a job or get through school. Just know that anything worth getting is hard to get. And remember the moments where you knew why, and if you don’t know why take a second and figure it out and see if it is worth it.

Best Part of the shirt not a fan of Physics ;)

Black and Blue

Today was a very fabulous productive day full of black and blue. The amazing new track I ran on was black and blue and the outfit I wore today was full of black and blue. This outfit featured some of my favorite tights from Urban Outfitters, these tights for some reason inspire random people to compliment them, I never thought anything of it until I mentioned this to one of my good friends and she said, "What would it be like to be so fashionable that random people commented." She said it in an off hand sorta way, but it really got me thinking. It got me thinking about why I dress the way I do.

The first time I really became interested in fashion was during that traumatic period of all of our lives, the pre-teen years. I was socially awkward and wanted to fit in, and the one thing I noticed was that the popular girls dressed cute. So I started to dress to fit in and to impress others. But as I continued to learn more and more about fashion, developing my own "never, sometimes, and always" in to my own personal style my reasons started to change.
Somewhere in between following the trends and finding my own style I began to love creating an outfit each day and then slowly day by day it became a part of my identity. Not something to impress others or to fit in. It became creating a piece of art each day on my body, something that could be mine each day.

Hiding Top Knot

This outfit kind of just came together last night, I am not sure where the inspiration came from, all I knew is that I wanted to do a top knot in my hair and that I wanted something warm, and this outfit came together. I feel that it works so well because all the pieces of this outfit are just simple staple pieces put together.

While I was taking these pictures I was reminded of a cover White Apple Tree did on a Modest Mouse song, "The Celebration Song." In particular the line, "Found a knot hiding, said "what are you doing there?"

Thank you so much for your comments and views!

Little "Seducing" Secrets

This post was inspired by the video shot by Intel Visual Life of the Sartorialist. The Sartorialist was one of the first blogs I sincerely followed. If you don't already know the Sartorialist shots different individuals around the world, also commonly known as a street photographer. I started to follow just as he started to get popular, it was so neat to learn more about him. Scott is such an inspiration and is truly an example of a person who has a beautiful mind who knows what he wants. I loved the quote at the beginning of the video, "It seems odd but it is almost letting yourself fall in love a little bit everyday letting your self be seduced a little bit everyday." I love that because there are so many things around us that have the potential to "seduce" us everyday. But tragically most of us miss those opportunities to stop and be seduced for "a little bit."

So I challenge you to stop and see what seduces you tomorrow it does not have to be fashion or something classically beautiful just something that rings true and clear in your heart. Today, for me, it was a simply beautiful sunset, a good discussion in Physics, and simple moments with good true friends.

And if that did not inspire you (or even if it did) please watch the next video that I found on GoodMorning & GoodNight a long time ago and felt that it was perfect for this post.

My suggestion is to watch this Second one all the way to the end and do what it tells you to. :)

The First Masterpiece of the Year

Inspiration: An outfit that makes me feel confident and makes me feel lovely and happy on my first day of the school. Because the first day of school is one of my favorite days, it is just a new start and I love learning. I was looking at the different blogs last night while I was thinking about the perfect outfit for the first day and I came across a photo of Blake Lively on Miss at la Playa.

Blake Lively is one of my style icons and it just reminded me of my Dad's shirt.
Ingredients: And I just love my Dad's shirt because my Dad is my hero and makeup I got from Urban Outfitters and my faithful boots that I have had since junior high.

Whirlwind

It is freezing outside I am exhausted but I am home! Above is a simple picture of my life right now which is a whirlwind. I did manage to read a really neat article in the January US Vogue about Sharah Burton who took over Alexander Mcqueen's Brand, I love how she is doing her own thing yet keeping McQueen's inspiration.
I was among the many who was greatly saddened by McQueen's death. I had just started to really look into his designs and realize how much of a true artist he was. I am happy to hear the brand is in good hands. I know that it will be different from what he did but as Shara Burton says at the end of the article "You just have to go with you gut, even if some else is not going to like it.'
