The Bloggers that I could not Live Without: The Sartorialist

I would like to share the five blogs that really resonate with me in five different posts, as their are just to many amazing things to share about each.

My interest in fashion started in Junior High and developed through out High School, truly blossoming my senior year when I started following the New York Times Style page. It also happened to be the time when fashion blogs were really finding a voice in the fashion world. It was there, on The New York Times Style page, that I found an article discussing the blog Jak & Jil by tom tom. This discovery eventually lead to the discovery of my five favorite bloggers: The Sartorialist, Garance Dore, The Cherry Blossom Girl, Mis at la Playa, and Jak & Jil. All of these blogs are very well known and have won prestigase awards. I have followed all of these blogs for several years now and have really grown to love and treasure the individual personality of their authors and the things that they share with me.

Scott Schuman
The Sartorialist is the genius of Scott Schuman. He is a simply amazing photographer with an amazing talent to find beauty and meaning in individuals everyday outfits and experience. He some how manages to capture the esscence of a person in a single photo. He takes pictures of everyone in all walks of life, a new and different Bill Cunningham (more on him later).

In a film by Intel Visual Life Scott describes the process of photo taking as "Letting yourself fall in love a bit, let yourself be seduced." The video is really good at showing is his creative process.

The Joys of Cooking

In the past few weeks I have made quite a few fun things and want to share them with you.The more I cook and bake the more I realize that I really enjoy it, their is just something so relaxing and fulfilling about it, especially cooking for my husband or others. One of my favorite things is trying to make new and different things. I rarely cook the same thing, as I have found a few amazing blogs with a great collection of recipes in addition to those that I have on Pinterest.

I also participate in a food co-op every couple of weeks called Bountiful Baskets. For those unfamiliar with a food co-op you pay a fee upfront that is pooled with other co-op participates to purchase a laundry basket full of fruit or veggies. The best part about this besides getting a ton of healthy food for cheap is that you never know what you are going to get. And you get fruits and veggies that I would not normally think to buy, giving me the opportunity to learn how to cook with new and different foods.

One of the first things I made were delectable Oreo cupcakes! They were a lot of fun to make and even more fun to eat until you realize how much sugar are in them. I followed a recipe from Annie-Eats.com, the recipe has very specific instructions.

So Good!

I have also have made homemade Salsa twice now as my Bountiful Basket has included quite a few tomatoes twice now. I really like this simple salsa recipe that I found on the Eat Yourself Skinny blog.

I was quite excited when I found that my latest basket contained corn. The corn was quite excellent we had it with fired sausage and Indian rice.

The Indian Rice recipe is:
Saute Half a White Onion in Pot
Add Chicken Broth and Boil
Add Rice
Cook most of the way and add Spices
Spices:
Tummerick, Cumin, Curry, Parsley
Last week I made a healthy version of homemade Mac & Cheese and cauliflower from Eat Yourself Skinny again. It was quite good.

In my last Bountiful Basket also contained blackberries and apricots and decided I wanted to make a jam out of them. I found this recipe on Pinterest the recipe is from the Food in a Jar blog.

Today I made a random concoction of eggs, green pepper, fresh parsley, white and green onion. It was quite delicious. My husband tells me that it is similar to the Mexican dish, huevos rancheros.

I would love to hear about some of your favorite recipes or any comments you have!

Pretty in Peach

So here is my first outfit post of my new wave of blogging! Last weekend my sister and I went shopping and got this lovely peach shirt, I just love the color. I wore this outfit to a campfire event with friends, so I wanted something a little warmer, like a scarf. Then I got the idea to wear two scarfs. One of which was given to me by my biggest fan and high school friend, Jenny. I really like how the look turned out.

I tried purple eyeliner and really liked how it looked. Makeup has always been hard for me so I was really excited when I found the Beauty Department from Pinterest.

graffiti

I have been really busy these last two weeks, as I just started a new job at a national laboratory. It is always a crazy time adjusting to a new job but I am grateful that I had a few weeks in between school and this job. During those weeks I really had a chance to do what I wanted for once. I was able to decorate our apartment (more on that later) and spend quality time with my husband. One of our favorite pass times is taking walks, on one of these walks we found this train covered in graffiti. My husband is always on the look out for neat graffiti and has a true appreciation for it. I quickly learned to love it as well. I just love how each piece represents someone expressing themselves on something that is seen all over the country, even in little old Idaho.

I love the colors of these pieces, I also really like the lettering of the pieces on the left.

One of my favorite things to look at were the smaller signatures that reveal the personality of the taggers.

These four were some of my favorite tags.

I felt that these tags were interesting as the express the feelings, hopes, and attitudes of their authors in simple words that are seen across the country.

My gangster husband (he really is a sweet heart), the train, and some small simple treasures found on the tracks.

Disclaimer: I do not support vandalism.
