The First Day of Fashion Week: A Review

Today was the first day of New York Fashion week! And as school does not start until Monday I could not help following the shows as closely as I can in middle of nowhere Idaho. Today's shows were not any huge names though still very interesting. It appears there still is large focus on patterns. Creative construction of garments is also very important. Only time will tell if these trends continue. The shows of Jason Wu, Rag & Bone, and Tommy Hilfiger are tomorrow so we will see what happens. I am excited to see what Rag & Bone has in store as they are one of my favorite houses.

The BCBG Max Azria was my favorite show from today. BCBG Max Azria is founded by Maz Azria a frenchmen of jewish decent. The BCBG comes from the french phrase "Bon chic, Bon genre," meaning "good style, good attitude." BCBG started in 1989 and now encompasses 20 brands. I really liked this seasons criss crossing straps on the bodice along with the color scheme of greys, black, and white mixed with wonderful floral patterns. If you have not noticed I love black and grey and am developing a love for floral. Here are a few of my favorite looks.

Creatures of the Wild also had their show today. Creatures of the Wild is designed by art students Shane Gabier and Chris Peters there show last season was a little crazy so they toned it down this year, maybe too much though. The whole collection was based off of the 60's but came across as very peasant like. My biggest problem with the looks is that they did not seem flattering and the patterns did not feel original and modern. Below are a few of their looks the first is my favorite of the collection.

Richard Chai was another designer to present his collection today. Richard Chai studied at Parsons School of Design. Some of you may recognize Parsons as the school Jenny Humphery attended in Gossip Girl. After school Richard worked for Armani and Marc Jacobs. He started his own company in 2004. You can see his passion for construction in this show. Here are some of my favorites!
